Just filling a standard of being a fan of the series who draws. Carry on.
Forward and backward, wasn’t that always how it was? The world around them moved a frame at a time, but when you’re here forever, motion becomes blurred and you’re traveling in the strangest way… Your past becomes a forgotten future, obscured by everything that went down in the history books. Only you truly know what happened, somewhere out there. Or somewhere… -in- there.
It was the greatest tragedy that never happened as they stood shoulder-to-shoulder, and it was something that couldn’t be reasoned away. Logic only seemed to confirm it, scream it, sometimes on deaf or skeptical ears. And as time passed, reason kept begging even when time had sealed the door shut. And the door, now withered into a solid substance, with only a window left through which to view an impossible world left behind… This was the timeline on which they had arrived, despite everything. Because of a few tiny fluctuations.
He sat alone, watching undulating lights shift and morph, knowing each one, knowing their origins and their results. And with each soft pang of his heart, he smiled a little for all of the forgotten futures and all of the ones who had not become him.
Because somewhere, logic had won. Somewhere, they had been as inseparable physically as they were by the reason that permeated all worlds. Somewhere, the threads of thought that wove through spacetime and connected them were actively woven by them, together, because it made sense.
And as the rest of the world clung to notions of suffering and forced plans that were doomed from the start, the two of them saw worlds beyond imagination, saw an endless realm of mystery, vast and untamed but always sensical. It wasn’t destiny. It was just an appreciation for the mind and all its potential, a knowledge of how to work with the world rather than against it. It was still a struggle, still a battle, but one they fought together. Unquestionably. After the initial caution, not once was there doubt. They strove for something greater, and in the end they took rest in eachothers’ arms.
